Horizon Europe Cancer Mission

ENACT-65

Testing integrated nutritional care through MyPath and live-remote exercise to improve quality of life and survival for patients aged 65 and beyond.

60 months
394 patients aged 65+
11 clinical centres
5 European countries
Overview

Integrated nutrition and exercise care for older adults with cancer.

ENACT-65, short for ENabling ACTion on Integrated Nutritional and Exercise Care in Cancer, is a 60-month Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action funded under the EU Mission on Cancer call HORIZON-MISS-2025-02-CANCER-05.

Coordinated by Oslo University Hospital, the project brings together clinical, nutrition, exercise oncology, digital health, health economics, psychosocial oncology and geriatric oncology expertise across Norway, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland.

Research

A pragmatic trial embedded in oncology care.

ENACT-65 will evaluate a digitally supported nutritional care pathway with live-remote structured exercise against standard cancer care.

MyPath nutritional care

Systematic screening, GLIM-based diagnostics, dietitian-reviewed personalised meal plans, weekly monitoring and escalation of care through the MyPath platform.

Live-remote exercise

A 24-week programme combining twice-weekly supervised resistance training, patient-driven aerobic activity and buddy walking adapted for older adults.

Multicentre RCT

The trial will recruit 394 adults aged 65+ with stage IV non-small cell lung cancer or colorectal cancer receiving systemic therapy across 11 centres.

Implementation evidence

Social science, patient and caregiver experience research, cost utility analysis and policy work will support adoption across European health systems.

Work plan

Six work packages from pathway design to European uptake.

  1. 01

    Project coordination and network organisation

  2. 02

Digital innovation for nutrition and exercise intervention

  3. 03

    Pragmatic RCT setup and execution

  4. 04

    Social science and humanities

  5. 05

    Cost-effectiveness of the ENACT-65 programme

  6. 06

    Communication, dissemination and exploitation

Impact

Evidence for age-inclusive supportive cancer care.

The project will generate clinical, economic and implementation evidence to help make nutrition and exercise an integrated part of oncology care for older adults.

Clinical evidence

Quality of life and survival

Co-primary endpoints use the EORTC QLQ-C30 summary score at 24 weeks and overall survival at two years post-baseline.
